Let's Share & Celebrate Our learning in Nursery
During the month of May, we had a wonderful time learning all about mini beasts and the tiny creatures in our environment. The children showed great excitement and curiosity as they explored outdoors, carefully searching for insects and observing them closely. We were also very lucky to have a special visitor from the Hares Cooperative, who showed us how to safely and respectfully find and look after these little creatures. It was a fantastic experience that brought learning to life and helped the children deepen their understanding of the natural world around them.
Our learning included.....
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
As children explored mini beasts together, they developed confidence, worked cooperatively, shared their discoveries, and showed care and empathy towards living creatures.
Physical Development
Children strengthened their fine and gross motor skills through digging, scooping, collecting, and carefully handling tools while exploring the outdoor environment.
Language and Literacy
Mini beast investigations encouraged children to talk about their findings, learn new words, listen to others, and enjoy stories and books linked to their interests.
Mathematics and Numeracy
Children counted and compared mini beasts, explored size and quantity, and developed early problem-solving skills through hands-on, practical experiences.
The World Around Us
Through observing mini beasts, children learned about habitats, life cycles, and the natural world, deepening their curiosity and understanding of their environment.
The Arts
Mini beasts inspired creative expression through art, music, and imaginative play, allowing children to explore colours, textures and ideas in fun and engaging ways.
Throughout all of these experiences, our values of kindness, honesty, enjoyment, nurture and resilience were at the heart of the children's learning
